Trans Awareness Training

Are you supporting a young trans person, but feel that you need support yourself?

Are you worried about your legal obligations around protecting staff, students and service users from discrimination and harassment?

Gendered Intelligence Professional Training can enable you to:

  • Comply with the Equality Act 2010, with regards to the Protected Characteristics of gender reassignment, sex and sexual orientation.
  • Tackle forms of bullying that relate to diverse gender expressions and sexual orientation.
  • Ensure your school, institute of education, public or private sector organisation can deal effectively with an ever increasing gender diverse population.
  • Build good working relations and ensure your school, service provision or workplace supports the smooth transition of all trans people within the organisation.
  • Enhance your professional development with specific skills and knowledge.

We offer training days to professionals who are looking to learn more about gender diversity and sexual orientation. These sessions can be anything from one-day or half day events to a series of sessions. It is possible for them to be tailored to the needs of different organisations and services from across the UK.

In the past we have delivered training to organisations such as MindOut, Walthamstow Youth Services, sexual health teams, Equality and Diversity teams, the Metropolitan Police as well as to primary and secondary school teachers and Higher Education Institutes from across the UK. To read more about the work that we have delivered see our Gendered Intelligence Biennial Report 2009 - 2011 at the Resources page.

Our training covers:
  • Considering the relationship between sex, gender and sexual orientation.
  • Key terms and language with regards to various trans identities.
  • What the law says.
  • Negotiating medical models of trans.
  • How we can make cultural and social interventions.
  • Tools for raising discussions around gendered identities.
  • Offer some experiences of trans people.
  • Signposting other organisations and resources.

As part of our training package we have various resources available. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.

Twilight Sessions

Gendered Intelligence run short Continuing Professional Development sessions in order to support any professionals who would like to increase their understanding around trans identities and to ensure their environments are inclusive and safe for all. We welcome professionals who work in education and other youth provision services.

These twilight sessions aim to open up discussion and understandings of gender and identity. Terms and vocabulary will be covered in order to give staff the confidence to discuss and understand the broad spectrum of gender identities. The sessions also offer some insight into young trans people's experiences which lead onto asking some practical questions around how we can make our spaces trans inclusive.

Spaces are limited on these sessions. To find out when the next sessions are available please contact us.
